This is taken from a FB forum, with Mahavirya being the contributor. Reposted because it is so incredibly interesting. I think he is on the right track here, as the material world is described as a reflection of the spiritual world.
"dhyāyato viṣayān puḿsaḥ

sańgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ
kāmāt krodho 'bhijāyate
krodhād bhavati sammohaḥ

smṛti-bhraḿśād buddhi-nāśo
buddhi-nāśāt praṇaśyati
While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises.
From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool.
The material pool is a reflection of anandam buddhi; the ocean of bliss or spiritual pool. Since a reflection conveys a reverse image of the real object.it reflects, we could then logically ascertain the truth about an object by reverse analysis of it's reflection.
Let's put this to test by ''reverse analysis'' of this verse from Bhagavad-gita. If the process starting with contemplating the objects of the senses leads eventually to a fall down into the material pool, the same process applied to the spiritual objects of the senses should result in absorption in the spiritual pool of bliss.
So, for a raganuga devotee who is always seeking the shelter of the sweet lotus feet of the Lord the verse would resonate like this:
While contemplating the (spiritual) objects of the senses(ruci), a person develops attachment (asakti) for them, and from such attachment lust (lobha) develops, and from lust anger (mana: advanced loving emotions) arises.
From anger, complete delusion (yogamaya's intervention) arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory ( of one's material identity). When memory is bewildered, intelligence ( intellectual conception of God) is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the ocean of bliss."
This is not complimentary to Uttamasloka's line of reasoning in regard to transformation of identity. The spiritualization of the ego takes place with spiritualization of all the senses.
