Dear Devotees,
Hare Kṛṣṇa! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda!
Uttamaśloka Prabhu has set a nice example for how to format Sanskrit in his book: "The Realization and Manifestation of Your Eternal Identity."
My humble suggestion is that we should do our best to follow Śrīla Prabhupāda's standard for using Sanskrit diacritics whenever possible:
"henceforward the policy for using diacritic markings is that I want them used everywhere, on large books, small books and also BTG. [...] So even on covers the diacritic markings should be used. We should not have to reduce our standard on account of the ignorant masses. Diacritic spelling is accepted internationally, and no learned person will even care to read our books unless this system is maintained." [Śrīla Prabhupāda, Letter to Jadurāṇī, 1971-12-31]

Type Sanskrit Diacritics in Windows (;a for ā)

Type Sanskrit Diacritics in Mac OS X (Opt+a for ā)

Here is a practical example:
Recently, I read an article where the author mixed up the personalities of Kālī (Durgā-Lord Śiva's wife) and Kali (the male personification of the "Age of Quarrel and Hypocrisy"). This was probably due to a lack of diacritic markings from his source texts.
Love,
Bhakta David
