>>One could of course again argue: 'what is the purpose of the exercise?' since God in His omnipotency and magnanimity could have easily designed a system by which from the onset, while emerging from blissful stupor in the Brahmajyoti, the Jiva would right there and then be tapped by kripa - krishna's or Guru's mercy without the need to enter the samsara.
1. We're being "tapped' by kripa all the time. From our viewpoint, its suffering. Its a bit like a bird attached to the cage- you have to make life unpleasant in the cage- get rid of the food and place it all outside. Only then it will leave. Only when we perceive something is missing here, do we even want to leave.
2. The soul is independent and free to act. If Krsna forced prema on us, we would not be free. The desire to develop it has to come from us- that desire is already there in Krsna. But he nudges us along- as one nudges a bird out of the cage- because he wants us to have it more than we do. Love cannot be forced. At this point, we may ask "Isn't it being forced upon the nitya siddhas who never were here?" But there was never a time when they did not have krsna-prema, so the question does not apply to them. You can't be forced to accept something you have always had. So, either way, there is no force.
We are exactly like God, in minute quantity. As we like to have children, just to see them develop from practically nothing to something incredible, so does God, and in doing so, we take on the burden, and so does He. We also like to be associating with those who are incredible, like us, and interact as equals- so does He. Now the kids we raise, they end up becoming adults, just like our friends, and we end up enjoying their company, like friends. But we had friends to begin with! So whats the purpose of all that- going through thousands of diaper changes, teething problems, schooling problems, heartbreaks, toothaches etc- just to get a handful of extra friends- which one could get by a bit of extra facebooking? Bewildering as it may seem, it is enjoyable- to see a soul evolve, from something insignificant to something incredible and feel one has played a part in that. So, what qualities are in the drop of seawater are in the ocean as well.
